The „HR Excellence in Research” Certificate – work has begun

1/24/2018 dpir category: information

SGH Warsaw School of Economics has begun efforts to obtain the distinction of „HR Excellence in Research” awarded by the European Commission to institutions that establish a friendly scientific work environment, improve its quality as part of ongoing research, guarantee transparent recruitment process of researchers, and provide the best working and development conditions to researchers. The first step to obtain the award will be the implementation of HRS4R Strategy and the policy of open and transparent recruitment processes (OTM-R). The implementation started on the 17th of January.

The HRS4R strategy is a kind of internal self-assessment that identifies existing gaps and defines the direction and scope of implementation of the principles contained in the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. Through the implementation of the HRS4R Strategy, research units contribute to the competitiveness of the European Research Area (ERA) and the attractiveness of the EU science system on a global scale. The European Commission promotes institutions that have been awarded „HR Excellence in Research” among international organizations and scientists as those that provide researchers with the best working and development conditions.

On 17 January 2018, SGH Warsaw School of Economics held an inaugural meeting of the HRS4R Strategy Implementation Team for increasing the attractiveness of working conditions and career development of researchers. The appointed team will also deal with the implementation of the policy of open and transparent recruitment processes.

The meeting was opened by the Vice Rector for Research and Management prof. Piotr Wachowiak, who explained the objectives of the HRS4R strategy implementation at SGH and indicated the benefits of „HR Excellence in Research’”distinction, such as: raising the prestige of the university in the national and international levels, advantage in NCN grant competitions, being awarded additional points in the parametric assessment and the right to post announcements on the European Euraxess recruitment platform.

Prof. Jana Pieriegud, the head of the HRS4R Strategy Implementation Team, presented the most important stages of work planned for 2018, and prof. Piotr Błędowski, Team Coordinator and member of the Monitoring Group, stressed that the principles and actions included in the Strategy and the OTM-R policy should become everyday practice of the university.

The training part of the meeting was led by Wojciech Majkowski, Ph.D., consultant for the implementation of the Strategy, who indicated which documents must be developed, on the basis of which criteria the university will be assessed, and, giving examples, showed what the gap analysis process looks like.

One of the stages of the process will involve conducting a questionnaire survey among scientific, research and didactic, scientific and technical, engineering and technical employees as well as among participants of doctoral studies, planned for March this year. Detailed information on this subject can be found at: We encourage the entire academic community to actively participate in this process.
