 MDDP with University of Cologne


​The Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) and the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences, University of Cologne are pleased to invite you to the four-semester study at Master's level in management.

Studies are conducted in English (one year at the partner university and year at home university) and ends with an examination master's in English. The student receives two professional titles:


  • „Master of Science in Management”
  • „Master of Science in International Business”

Depending on the study track the student is admitted to by the time of application for the double degree program


  • „Master of Science in Business Administration”

 Programme structure


​The intended period of study for the double degree program shall be two years (4 semesters). Double degree students will spend their first year at UoC, the second year at SGH. Full information should be provided to the host institution on the courses that participants have taken at their home institution and vice versa.

Double degree students shall have access to courses and enjoy the same rights and privileges and be subject to the same rules and regulations as the regular graduate students in the corresponding Master study track of the host institution. They shall register at the host institution only for the parts of the study program that will be carried out under the responsibility of the host institution.

 Study programme


​1st year at the University of Cologne:

  1. Major courses (has to be Methods and Techniques)
    You have to choose 3 courses (18 ECTS)
  2. Specialization courses (has to be Major Core Courses)
    You have to choose 7 courses from 1 major (42 ECTS). You may choose the courses on white background only. Courses with the letter 'E' are delivered in English.

2nd year at the Warsaw School of Economics:

  1. Core courses - in English or in Polish language. 2 courses have to be chosen (9ECTS).


  1. Core major courses: Management (in English or in Polish). 6 courses have to be chosen (22.5 ECTS)
  2. Elective courses related to Management (in English or in Polish). 5 courses have to be chosen (15 ECTS)


  1. Major courses: International Business (in English). 6 courses have to be chosen (21.5 ECTS)
  2. Elective courses related to International Business (in English). 5 courses have to be chosen (15 ECTS).

 Master Thesis & Internship

  1. ​In addition to the mandatory coursework at both institutions, as set forth in the agreement, the double degree student is required to write a Master thesis. The Master thesis is worth 24 ECTS at UoC and at SGH. The partner institutions assure the legal and organizational pre-conditions required for enabling the double degree students to start with the Master thesis in their second study year.
  2. The Master thesis shall be supervised by one supervisor and co-tutored by a co-supervisor. The double degree students shall choose one supervisor from either institution, the co-supervisor has to come from the partner institution respectively. The language of the Master thesis is English.
  3. Part of the completion of the Master thesis is a defence of the thesis. Members of the partner institution are invited to attend the defence. In preparation of the defence the double degree student has to write a thesis summary in English. The defence will be conducted through English.
  4. The management process of the preparation of the Master thesis should meet all the legal and academic constraints of the institution at which student write and defend the Master thesis.

SGH will provide UoC students with an internship during their study year at SGH, unless UoC students have already completed an internship according to the requirements of SGH before commencing the second year of the double degree program.


 Conditions for obtaining the double degree


​The double degree shall only be awarded after the student has completed the program by fulfilling the following requirements:

  1. at UoC: the award of at least 60 ECTS credit points equivalent to the regulations constituted in this agreement,
  2. SGH: the award of at least 46,5 ECTS for the Major “Management”, equivalent to the regulations constituted in this agreement or the award of at least 45,5 ECTS for the Major “International Business”, equivalent to the regulations constituted in this agreement
  3. completion of a minimum of 4 weeks internship during the studies at SGH worth ECTS,
  4. completion of a Master thesis (24 ECTS) under the terms and conditions delineated in this agreement

 Selection and documents

  1. ​SGH has the right to admit up to 5 students per year to the double degree program.
  2. Candidates should identify a certificate of GMAT (or equivalent score of GRE certificate) to be accepted into the program.
  3. Acceptance to the program will be decided by interview. The qualification to the double diploma programme with UOC is conditional; the final qualification depends on the fact if the candidate will be accepted to full time master studies on either management or International Business from the a.y. 2014/15.
  4. All candidates for MDDP must prove adequate knowledge - according to language proficiency requirements of the Common European Framework - CEF. SGH-Students must have the following certifications to participate in the program:
    • English B2 (or above) and the German B1 (or above) or
    • German B2 (or higher) and English B1 (or above)
  5. UoC has the right to not accept a MDDP candidate from SGH because of important reasons.

We remind the candidates that the qualification to the double diploma programme with UoC is conditional; the final qualification depends on the fact if the candidate will be accepted to full time master studies on management from the a.y. 2014/15

​According to the Rules and Regulations of selection for international programmes and exchanges at SGH, all students accepted for double diploma programmes are not allowed to apply for any other exchange or programme that involves mobility abroad in the given academic year. It especially refers to Erasmus, PIM and bilateral exchanges and and international programmes like CEMS MIM.
