Poland Business and Education Week in Nevada

3/31/2017 category: information

Poland Business and Education Week took place in Nevada on 13–17 March, organised by the Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development and the Polish-American Chamber of Commerce of Nevada. This initiative – combining educational, political, and business values – was actively supported by the Warsaw School of Economics. The School’s delegation to Nevada comprised Vice Rector for Outreach Prof. Hanna Godlewska-Majkowska, Assoc. Prof. Marcin Wojtysiak-Kotlarski, and Asst. Prof. Paweł Pietrasieński.

On 14 March, the delegation participated in celebrations of the Poland Day at the Nevada Legislature in Carson City, where a proclamation was issued, declaring the importance of the relations between Poland and Nevada, and mentioning SGH among educational institutions essential to the cooperation between the two. Poland is the second country, after Canada, to be honoured in this manner by the Nevada Legislature. On the same day, the Polish delegation was received by Brian Sandoval, the Governor of Nevada in his residence. In his speech, Governor Sandoval asserted that development of education, including the relations between tertiary education institutions both in Nevada and Poland, is one of the priorities of his public service. In conversation with the governor, Prof. Hanna Godlewska-Majkowska stressed that the SGH management greatly values the academic relations with the US in general, and the cooperation with Nevada’s universities in the fields of research, education, and academic entrepreneurship stimulation in particular.

During this one-week stay, the SGH delegation visited the state’s most important institutions of tertiary education: the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) – including its partner College of Business and Center for Entrepreneurship – and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), as well as Sierra Nevada College in Tahoe, Western Nevada College in Carson City and Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno. Another vital part of the visit was a discussion on potential areas of cooperation with the largest research institutions in this state – UNR Innevation Center in Reno and Switch Innevation Center in Las Vegas.
A return visit of Nevada representatives, featuring members of academic community, is scheduled for October, and it will be co-hosted by SGH. In the near future, SGH will also welcome a delegation from the University of Nevada, Reno, enabling both institutions to continue working on a joint educational offer and university start-up accelerator projects.
